THE BUILDINGS OF SENATE AND SYNOD
The buildings of Senate and Synod are situated on Senatskaya Square. The project of these buildings belongs to Karl Rossi. The construction of them lasted from the period of 1829-1834.
The buildings are joined with each other by an arch. The arch is crowned with a bronze group personifying "Justice and Godliness". There are statues of "Geniuses holding the law". There are three bas-reliefs on the attic of the arch, under the sculptural group: on the left - "God’s law", in the center - "Natural law", on the right - "Civil law".
There are 16 statues-allegories in the bays of the façades: Faith, Truth, Wisdom, Jurisprudence, Firmness, Justice, etc. The entrances to the buildings have very beautiful granite staircases.
